Questions

What people ask us

Can I coat my garage floor myself?

Partly. You can clean, degrease, and patch small cracks. That saves time. But grinding the slab, testing moisture, and rolling fast-setting coatings take pro equipment and skill. Know your line. A provider in our network can handle the hard steps. Prep decides everything, and shortcuts show up later as peeling.

Why does garage floor coating peel?

Most peeling starts with prep. Oil, dust, moisture, or a slick slab stops the coating from bonding. Hot tires can also lift a weak bond. Store-bought kits often skip the heavy grinding that pros do. A local provider can test the slab and grind it first. Then the coating has something to grip.

How long until I can walk or park on a new floor?

It depends on the product and the weather. Polyaspartic often cures faster than epoxy. Light foot traffic may come sooner than car traffic. Ask the provider for the cure schedule in writing. Keep kids and pets off the floor until the provider says it is ready.

Are coating fumes safe?

Not while the coating cures. Fumes can be strong. Keep kids, pets, and yourself out of the garage during the job. Providers use fans and masks. On smoky wildfire days, ask the provider about timing. Read the product safety sheet, and never mix products yourself without a proper respirator.

Can I coat a floor with cracks or damp spots?

Hairline cracks are a fair DIY patch. Wide cracks, raised slabs, or damp spots need a pro. Moisture can push a coating up from below. Tape a plastic sheet to the floor overnight. If water beads underneath, tell the provider. Winter rain can make this worse.

How do I care for a coated garage floor?

Coat it, then care. Sweep weekly. Mop with mild cleaner and water. Wipe up oil and antifreeze soon after they spill. Skip harsh acids and stiff wire brushes. Use mats under jack stands. Ask the provider for a care sheet that fits the product on your floor.

What does a garage floor coating cost?

Typical U.S. prices run roughly $3 to $12 per square foot for epoxy, and often more for polyaspartic. Prep, cracks, and size change the number. Always get a written quote from the provider.

How do I make a coating last, and when does it need a fix?

Keep the slab dry and clean. Fix chips early, before water gets under them. Watch for dull patches, fading near the door, and lifted edges. These are early signs. A provider can touch up spots or add a topcoat. Ask what upkeep they suggest, since care after the job is what protects it.
